Night outing on Celup-Celup

Family late nite outing is fun sometimes. Driving on Friday night around The City of Kuala Lumpur is not congested as long as you don't get into the area called Bukit Bintang.

Tonight, we went to the oldest road Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, which is named after the first Prime Minister of Malaysia , Tunku Abdul Rahman Al-Haj. I normally avoid this main road at day time, because the traffic is too congested and testing my patience.

We saw group of people gathering at one junction by the main road. We knew that must be something that we were looking for too.

My parents and the family of my brother, Munasir, happen to be in town attending convocation of my niece, Munirah.

After sending them to the hotel, located nearby their favorite shopping area, we decided to join the crowd at the junction.

Lets cook and eat by the road side...!

Im not sure what is the real name of this unique dish.  the concept is, you pick whatever you want from the varieties of selections, among others, fish ball, prawn ball, bean curd, vegetables, squid, chicken liver, bloody clams and many more.

Next, you yourself soak them into the provided pot of boiling water until they are cooked. You will then top them with 3 different types of special sauces, which are chilly base, tamarind base and peanut base sauce and they are ready to be eaten.

While waiting for them to get well-done, I looked around looking for interesting thing that catches my attention. The motorists and the passers by looked interested to know what we were gathering for. The street lights and the tree  lightings provided a lovely view, indeed.

But..No seat provided though. You may choose to eat on standing position or follow our style.

My hubby,Zul, my son Adri and I chose to join the others, sitting on the pavement, by the roadside.

One thing good about not being a celebrity is, nobody cares wherever or how-ever we choose to eat.

Back to the naming issue, since we do not know what to call this food, we just simply call it celup-celup (churh-loop x 2). The Malay word ‘celup’ means soak.

Oh… please… don't talk about hygiene…..Im trying to boost up my immune system.
