P. Ramlee the legend

 

There is no replacement. Not even close. He is one of the legend that I adore other than Elvis and Sudirman Hj Arshad.

P. Ramlee had a standard of his own. He was a musician, song writer, song composer, actor, film director. Just name it, he was it. I wasn't even a teen when he died at 44. Somehow I could value his contribution to the music and film industry, then.

In honor of his contributions to the Malaysian entertainment industry, the P. Ramlee Memorial or Pustaka Peringatan P. Ramlee was built in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur. In 1982. I’ve yet visited the place. I will , someday.

Hey, I just got to know that he went to Penang Free School. The school is located right across the road from my parents-inlaws’ former house. My hubby grew up in the house.

 

The sad thing is that, many would relate one’s credibility with one’s personal life. I don't. No body is perfect. I would still appreciate and value the good work done by a drunk driver, for instance.

It was sad that P.Ramlee was rejected by his nation prior to his death due to his imperfect personality. His death somehow shocked the nation and marked the turning point of their perception and appreciation. One after another awards given to him. Too late people…He is dead ok.

Tonight, for the hundred times, I watched a movie which he featured. Nujum Pak Belalang. I’ve almost memorized all the scripts and yet, I am still enjoying the movie. So is my hubby and my son, who is born long after the death of P.Ramlee.

P Ramlee died on the 27th of May 1973.
